7 Success Factors for Multiple Choice Tests

by S. Merritt on August 25, 2009

Nailing your next multiple choice test may seem like a simple matter of studying more. The reality, though is far different. Multiple choice exams are a skill all their own – you’ll need to make sure you’ve got these 7 angles covered:

  1. Prep – Yep -  studying.  But before you say “duh,”, consider this:  you don’t necessarily need to study more or less than you do now. (Although it’s highly likely you can do less.) What you do need to do is study smarter.
  2. Confidence – Research shows that this is the key factor in…well, pretty much everything.  Confidence is the single largest factor in effective memory!
  3. Panic Management – The better you control this, the more effective you’ll be.
  4. Time Management – These tests can be long, and hard.  Mismanaging your time can kill you on objective tests.
  5. Practice – Yep.  Just like throwing a baseball and playing the oboe, multiple choice ability improves with practice, particularly if that practice is done using actual sample multiple choice tests.
  6. Logic – Multiple choice tests are all about logic.  Understanding what something like “never not unnecessary” means can change your grade.
  7. Test Strategy –  The tips and techniques to help you through any multiple choice tests.
